TWO INTERVIEWS: America is unhappy, Hawker says
NOV. 7, 2018 | Australian political consultant and filmmaker Bruce Hawker spoke with Stan Grant on ABC’s “Matter of Fact” about his documentary project on America’s midterm elections. His conclusion: America is an unhappy country and the divisiveness causing the unhappiness will continue after Democrats took control of the U.S. House in the lead up to the 2020 presidential election:
DAY 27: Election Day!
NOV. 6, 2018 | The crew wrapped up filming A Hard Road with three interviews with political insiders, followed by attending an election party at the National Press Club to watch the election returns as Democrats regained the U.S. House, but lost key seats in the U.S. Senate.
DAY 26: Back in Washington, D.C.
NOV. 5, 2018 | On the day before the midterm elections, the crew traveled around Washington, D.C., starting with Bruce Hawker being on an international panel (above) commenting on the midterm elections, followed by an interview with a Democratic communications consultant.
RADIO: Anxiety, interest high in midterm elections, Hawker says
NOV. 5, 2018 | Australia’s ABC Radio interviewed strategist Bruce Hawker on the day before the midterm elections: “He said public interest in this poll was higher than he’d ever seen in more than 20 years observing US politics, and divisions were so severe, people were afraid to speak about their choices for fear of alienating friends and family.”
DAY 25: In and around West Chester
NOV. 3, 2018 | Over the last four weeks, we’ve traveled more than 3,500 miles, visited 12 states and interviewed 130 people. Our last day on the, ahem, hard road was in and around West Chester, Penn., where we met seasoned public policy strategist Eric Schnurer, an opinion contributor to U.S. News and World Report.

NOV. 3, 2018 | U.S. Rep. Dwight Evans, a Pennsylvania Democrat pictured above, told the crew Saturday during a health care rally near Independence Hall that his state would be ground zero in his party’s effort to take back the U.S. House
DAY 23: Gettysburg
NOV. 2, 2018 | Just over two weeks before then 155th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s short Gettysburg Address that describes America’s national purpose, the crew visited the battlefield that had the largest number of casualties during the American Civil War.
“Matter of Fact” again interviews Hawker about elections
Bruce Hawker joins Stan Grant on ABC Australia’s “Matter of Fact” from Pittsburgh following the massacre of Jewish worshipers at a synagogue in Squirrel Hill. They discussed to the divided nature of the current U.S. political climate and the reaction of the people of Pittsburgh to a visit from President Donald Trump to offer his condolences.
DAY 22: From blight to Amish country
NOV. 1, 2018 | The effects of thousands and thousands of job losses came into focus in Monessen, Penn., where decaying buildings and blight fill a once-vibrant downtown. Later on this gray day, the crew traveled to Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa., to talk with a respected pollster about what’s happening across the country.
