DAY 17: Fall market and a presidential candidate

OCT. 27, 2018  |  Bruce Hawker and Iowa state Sen. Jeff Danielson, D-Cedar Falls, shared a laugh (above) at Cup of Joe, a great little coffee shop in Cedar Falls.

Danielson, a state senator since 2004, walked the crew through the final fall market of the year as kids dressed as ghouls, goblins, tacos, Star Wars characters and more took advantage of a bright fall day. Danielson, whose campaign motto is “I work for you,” shared a frustration with how many in his party don’t campaign smartly to win elections.

Later, he introduced the crew to U.S. Rep. John K. Delaney, a Maryland Democrat who is the first in his party to declare as a candidate running for president in 2020. Delaney shared that the next president needs to pull the country together and address economic issues that hit people’s pocketbooks. Iowa, the nation’s first presidential caucus state, will see more than a dozen candidates repeatedly over the next year.
