DAY 18: Headed to Indiana

OCT. 28, 2018  |  The sun rose as the crew left Cedar Falls, Iowa, early to get on a hard road (yes, we said it) trip to Indiana to meet with a biographer of Vice President Mike Pence. Along the way, the terrain was familiar:  flat, flat land that was tan from crops just harvested or about to be.

Andrea Neal, author of Pence: The Path to Power, met Bruce Hawker on a cold, rainy Sunday afternoon in the Indiana capitol building in Indianapolis.  She told of Pence’s childhood and rise to power from Congress to governor.  And she highlighted how Pence was invaluable to the Trump campaign in 2016 because of how he energized evangelicals to support the Republican ticket.

Headed to Indiana

A huge truck stop along Interstate 80 in Iowa.
Scores of wind turbines dotted the Illinois landscape in the central part of the state.
A great diner just off Interstate 74 in Mahomet, Ill.
