DAY TWO: Tucson

The second day of filming brought an emotional moment as a Tucson woman approached former U.S. Rep. Ron Barber with a bouquet of flowers purchased in the grocery store in which he and 18 others were shot in 2011 The woman, who asked not to be named or filmed, expressed her gratitude to Barber, who was elected to Congress to fill a seat vacated by former U.S. Rep. Gabby Giffords as she recovered from her wounds, for his service to the country.

DAY ONE: Arizona’s high desert and border walls

A drive across the arid high desert of southern Arizona brought the crew to the border town of Douglas, population 17,000., where Mayor Robert Uribe discussed creating an environment of unity with his sister city across the Mexican border.

After a walk along an 18-foot steel wall at the Douglas-Mexico border, we headed 45 minutes east to visit with Dr. Gary Thrasher, a large-animal veterinarian in Hereford, who showed us a different kind of border “wall” — a six-strand barbed wire fence and steel barrier in the San Rafael Valley.
